I tried to expand a little off of Connie's - use it as a springing board. I got a bit concerned about "anyone should be able to teach the lesson" so thought it might be best to do it in more detail. Here it is, let me know what you think (excuse formatting/cut-and-paste didn't like me):

Librarian Activities:
Before the lesson:

  • Meets one-on-one with 4th grade history/social studies teacher for initial consultation about creating a technology-integrated lesson applicable to student learning outcomes.
  • Provides sample technologies and lesson ideas to teacher.
  • Collaborates with the teacher to select and fine-tune lesson activity.
  • Observes the classroom to gauge student learning styles and capabilities.
  • Provides print resources, such as fact-sheets and articles on Florida areas-of-interest.
  • Ensures Google Earth is installed on all computers in lab prior to first visit by class.
  • Ensures lab space is available for 4 blocks of time for 45 minutes.

During the lesson:

  • Assists teacher in overview of the print resources that were handed out.
  • Explains to students how the print resources were located and of their value.
  • Assists teacher in reiterating that the students will be making a slideshow of interesting facts of the places of their choosing in a follow-up class, in order to convince someone else to visit that vacation spot.
  • Explains the technology of Google Earth and how to navigate.
  • Allows students to locate their own homes to get them familiar with software.
  • Circulates during lab time to assist with questions

After the lesson:

  • Visits with teacher to assist her in helping the students compile their information.
  • Assists with power-point technology.
  • Provides one survey to the teacher and one survey to the students to determine strengths and weaknesses with the lesson.

  • Holds student presentations in the media center.
